My grandfather, Obert, was famous for fabricating new inventions using scraps from his garage or treasures he’d salvaged from the local landfill. We would lovingly call his inventions “Oberts.” In our family, when someone displays this special knack for invention, they’re said to have the “Obert gene.” The Obert gene runs deep in my dad, and every once in a while, it shows up in me.
Case in point; I got tired of constantly spilling my coffee in our 14ft aluminum fishing boat in MN, so I fashioned this cup holder out of coat hanger. It doesn’t look like much, but it works like a charm!
Thanks, Grandpa Obert, for sharing your genes with me!
